You WILL let me sing this, right?  Right?! And with the telephone-ish effect?

Needs some Emu, but yeah, great start.
I'm not quite sure how this will turn out yet, but I had Emu in mind for the verses (spoken word) and melodies (in style of the synth) in the chorus. Maybe duet by you and me? The title is "Run" and my idea is Emu as the evil himself speaks out his voodoo  on us. We run for our lives in the chorus.

Maybe there will be a new "run"-part as well. Only in my mind so far...

Is your gear up and running again?
[/quote]

Creepy Emu VooDoo on spoken verse? Running for our lives?   Yes, please.

New Scarlett 8i6 interface up and running...and I got a new microphone cord as. Mother's Day present from my kids.

Hi, boys! :)

W, this is really getting there-- I like the "breakdown" on verse two very much.  Nice to vary it a little.

I think the vox treatment is ummm.. Different for me... And I'm trying to decide if it's a pre-delay thing I am hearing or something else (I have no experience at all with eq'ing, and can't help, there).  There is a lot of sybillance (s's and t's) that sounds too strong for my ears.  It may also be compression?

I have such a strange voice -- so LOUD up high in the chorus and so soft down low on the verse-- very hard to deal with on your end, I'm sure!

Personally, I'd like to hear the chorus parts up a little, especially the higher ones.  I can barely hear them back there, and I think it might take some of the monotony away (not that I have issues with monotony-- you should hear my latest track.  Crazy boring).

Ok.  That being said... I really DO love where this is going.  And THANKS everyone for the nice things.  Nice to see you all! :)

I had to translate "fläskläpp"....

And then I giggled.

God morgon, min vänner!

Yes, it's been a long time, hasn't it?  I've been very busy with other projects lately, but when Max sent this, I heard Gospel.  And while I'm not at all religious, I do love to sing gospel.  Very strange, i know, but there you are. And by the way, EQ... You should hear "I Shall Be Released" from the gospel choir Bob Dylan Tribute Album ("The Brothers and Sisters sing Bob Dylan", I think)--- it's amazing.

Thank you for all the kind comments, I will do this as Max instructs once I'm feeling better.  Must get this cold out of my nose and throat first, though.  Might be a week or so. This was the last thing I sang before the cold hit me. :)

The Google translation was mearly correct this time. Every swede has English as a B-language so I think its an overdo to translate actually. I might be wrong but I wont be wrong allways (a nice song from Ten Years After)
About the song I've allready said I like it.

Oh, I know it, Eddi... But I always feel bad about just posting in English.  This is YOUR HOUSE, after all and I'm no stereotypical Americentric.  :). Plus, I worry that not everyone speaks English as beautifully as most of you seem to do, and I wouldn't want someone to ignore my post because of it.  So, I try to remember to post a translate where I think it might be important.

7
Oh my goodness.. Asti, you didn't tell me all of this was going on... I feel that I should have kept an eye on this thread.  I haven't even sat down at my PC for days - very busy with the kids and house projects.

My input chain:  AT-2050 Unidirectional (with the Cardiod Pattern selected)--> M-Audio Fast Track Ultra --> Sonar Home Studio 6 XL --> No effects.

I DO have a a very treble-y voice.  I didn't eq it at all, I didn't try to mask anything...  and I sing very dynamically (I leave the highs and lows alone, and there are lots of them).  I think that if someone wants to compress it, that should be up to them... so I don't do it.  I know that others who have mixed my voice have eq'd it to dampen the harshness of it or to make it softer (more bass and mid) for certain effect.

But in all honesty, I didn't hear any problems at all with Asti's original version. On the other hand, listening to it side by side with AF's version, I think, "well... maybe a mix between the two would be lovely".  I actually like the softness that AF's version gives (cotton-y sort of... like clouds) - but it does lose a little definition of the guitars. It does come down to preference, I think.

Asti, my sincere apologies for not getting in to listen before now...

(GOOGLE SAYS:)

Nilsson, For what it's worth, I used an AT 2050 multidirectional microphone, in my living room with a three-way folding screen and a wool blanket to dampen the echo and "outside" sounds.

It's what I have.

9
Wow!  Tack, everyone!

Asti, I posted the video, and the audio at the Sonar forum (I use Sonar)... There is some really really really nice feedback, if you are interested...

Thanks for your feedback Eddi, Larsson, Gurano, Silverpilen and Emulator!
I am very satisfied with Juliannas interpretation of the song and thrilled by
watching the video on youtube!  :)

Yay! I'm so glad you like it!  :)

Ok, I lied.  It's midnight, and I'm uploading to youtube.

It isn't much - just a little something to look at, really... but something is better than nothing, right?

Anyway, the audio on this video is live, so it's a little different than what Asti has on the "real" version.  And, I'm sure the mix isn't as nice, not to mention that there are a few "pops" because I took down my pop-filter so you could see my face.  The worst one is in the very very beginning, so be warned.  The rest is better.

But it was a nice day, and the clouds were lovely, so I made some moving pictures.  Hope you like it!   ;)

Note that I JUST finished uploading it, and it might take a few hours for youtube to get it all processed.  So, If you get an error message, that's probably why.  I'm going to bed and not waiting.

And... what I'm sure is a hilarious Swedish Translation, courtesy of Google:

And thank you, Asti, for waiting so very patiently for me to finally finish this...   Its impossible to record while the kids are home during winter break!

And I have a surprise... But you will have to wait (again!) to see it... See it?!?!  Yes!  SEE IT.     I hope to finish tomorrow, my time....

Thanks, Eddi!  "Scar" is a new term to me- I'm glad you translated further!

Larsson, my Google translation didn't help me... Did you mean that there is a part of the humming/ooohing bit that isn't so good?  Should I re-do it?

5 poäng till Låt nr 11  Skäggi' Reggae - Morgonte
3 poäng till
1 poäng till
Hmm what about the other - you missed the 2 other---I guess ;)

I fixed it!  :)

The votes from California are in!

5 poäng till Låt nr 11  Skäggi' Reggae - Morgonte
3 poäng till Låt nr  9  On the roof - Egghuvud

I'm a SUCKER for the Reggae, and Morgonte did a great job here... I'd seriously add this to my iPod Reggae mix.  No question.

Eggs did a great job making a song out of almost nothing, without being just acapella... and that's what I was looking for.  GREAT JOB.

Emlan, I really can't ignore your amazing talent.  Such a beautiful voice.

...Allt gjort i logic o reason, tror glaskrosset är logic....

Well... not *everything*.  Vocals originally recorded in Sonar.

 And YES!  THANK YOU ALL for your votes!  It's been so lovely to see people enjoying this funny little thing we made!

SAME HERE!!  :)  Plus, I've had a house full of visitors for over a week (American Thanksgiving)... and I want to listen at full volume.  So I'm waiting... ;)

Festivaler / SV: Forumfestival 15 - Rythm & Song - diskografitråd
« skrivet: 24.11.2010, 03:34:50 »
I have to admit that "I started it" for Emulator's & my contribution... When I first read about the festival, I was playing with the idea of tapping out rhythms on different parts of my body (thighs, chest, hand claps, etc) heavily distorting the beats, and then layering it all together.  I recorded the beats, liked it how it sounded, and decided to throw on some vocals - totally experimenting with no intention of it ever becoming anything... I certainly didn't intend to submit it to the festival.  However, I wasn't happy with the effects and distortions I'd used, and asked Emu how he would fix it.  Well... apparently THIS is how he'd "fix" it.

What you hear in this version was basically a one-shot vocal recording.  How it turned into a "bedroom song" I have NO idea...but it did... In fact, I think that Emu has cut out some of the naughtier bits.

What appears to be a Middle Eastern horn of some sort is, in fact, my voice... Emu asked for some samples of me singing and he turned them into what you have here.  I'll have to let him tell you how he did it.  So - while it SOUNDS as if we've used some instrumentation, we haven't.  It's all non-tonal percussion and voice (both mine and his).  But I think we'll remix it again after this is over.   ;)

Lyrics (Julianna's Part):
I wanna love you baby
Wanna feel you at night
I wanna love you baby
While you're holding me tight
I wanna love you baby
Make you Weak in the knees
I wanna love you baby...
....Please?

SO...........since I can edit what people post here, I will continue here in J's post.

The lyrics i sing:

as the light fades now
as the shadows arrive
as the truth gets naked its the thrill that survives
as the pain gets darker
as the drug kicks in
as you make me shiver make me embrace your sin

« skrivet: 24.10.2010, 04:55:43 »
Hey, Max!  I'm actually a huge Bob Dylan fan.  And this is one of my favorite Dylan songs.  Some people don't like it when someone covers Dylan, but having seen the Man live 4 years in a row, I can tell you this... Bob Dylan covers HIMSELF these days...

As for you,  I think the song might want a little more anger in it... More hurt... It's almost happy the way you have played it.  Might be because of the chords, though.  On the other hand, it's mixed well, and there is always room for a new interpretation.  That's what it's all about anyway, isn't it?  :P

Yepp, Donovan wrote Mellow Yellow. (I heard that Mellow Yellow is dried threads from banana skins that you smoke, but it doesn't work. :P)

It does if you have enough banana threads...

I was worried with my Donovan reference... I love him, but realize that not everyone else does.  Glad that you understood!  "Wear your love like heaven".... Lovely image...

Well, You know, I'll listen to anything Kornstad sings

"Will the Swallow's Arrow Fly"... "Fly" has a little clash to my ear.  Not terrible, but... something... slightly off.  So, if Marre is looking for criticism, that's about all I can give her... Other than that, she fits in nicely. "With the birds that always run" is particularly nice with her.

I'll be harsh, and say that I am not convinced that the song benefits from the almost quarter-tone like vocal movement ("Cheerful Glade", "Lithe lofty Reed", "Pond is filled").  Where the vocal movement is limited to 3 or four tones, it's okay for me.  More than the 3 or four notes, though, and I find it strange.  I say, let the orchestra take the movement and let the singers concentrate on the verse.  I  lose the meaning of the word somewhere in the middle of the notes... The feel will still be retained by the orchestra...

But, this is the opinion of someone who does not have the ear or listening experience with this type of music...  Uh... but there's also my aria experience... which I CAN say I have an ear for... So... Huh.  Yeah, I don't know where I was going with that...

Wow.  What a lovely lovely voice.  That minor note at 105 is just absolutely delicious.     Well worth a listen for even that single note.

Wow.  Very theatrical, but easy to listen to, even without the film to go along with it.  It doesn't need one.  I can already see it in my head... Bands of angry Horses and Riders are coming to my small, ancient village, looking for my father... I run for cover and hide in the woods...

I haven't heard Finnish in a very long time - it's lovely.  Kul that you used it!

Since You mentioned the "Mellow-Yellow Band"... I have to say it:  Didn't Donovan sing this at some Folk Festival in 1968?

Really really nice, Guys.  Lyrically strong , especially "She leads her other life beneath the moonlight, Even on this sunny afternoon"... Love that line.

The theremin is totally unexpected and fun.  I can count on only one hand how many times I've heard a theremin in a pop song...

"we suffer in silent"

I originalversionen sjunger tomas "we suffer in silence".

I was listening to that very passage when I read this... Weird.  For what it's worth, I didn't question it until I read this.  There is a slight "t" sound at the end, but I think it can pass.  Might just be sibilance that you can fix, T?

This song is like a tidal wave... It just washes over you and takes you completely.  The more I hear it, the more I want to listen.

Max, I'm not sure a out Google translation on that one, but it made me wonder where the term came from... Found this:  http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/305333 interesting to say the least.

You are right... Buckley, indeed does an amazing version - and given your thoughts, I'm glad that you took a listen to my attempt! :)

I DID play around with the notes on "major lift" - in fact, I have several takes where I did not slide up to it, but in the end, that was my favorite take overall, so I left it in.  I did think about editing in a non-sliding version... But you now how it is.... You start one way and end up another, and keep changing and adding as you go along, and then it becomes altogether someone different than What you had when you started!

Marre, Clavi, thank you for the nice comments!  And for listening!

Demolåtar / SV: Hogge - Ugly
« skrivet: 10.09.2010, 23:54:40 »
HA!  Hogge, I'm laughing at the lyrics... HA!... and someone had to say it!   :D

Drums are great... Guitars, too... but altogether, the mix sounds a little bit "ambient"?  Not the style of the song, obviously - but, where the song sits in the mix - and, by that I mean it the mix sounds kind of "far away"?  It doesn't sound "full" to my ears.  It's kind of "thin".

But I think that overall, the song is "fun and funny, nothing serious" as an old college room mate used to say to me... and that was always a good thing.
