I was just telling EMU how I think you sound lkike John Lennon on a scratch vocal you sent for me to sing to... (I found it!  I haven't forgotten!) and this song confirms it.  Gubbrock?  Ok.  Fine.  But I'm no crusty old man, and I kind of like it.... :)  I like the chorus especially - I find it very catchy - and the guitar work is, of course, very, very well done.

Divi - I really like the themes/melody and especially the synth effects on this one.  An apt title, as well!  Feels like being stuck somewhere between Asia and Europe... Hey!  Isn't Japan known as "the Floating world" or something like that?  Maybe that's what's making me think of it...

Anyway - I do think it might be less "perky" with a darker piano tone - that's what I would go for, but to each his own.  Nice development of the theme as well....

McMuffin would say "Best Before date"... or "Jumped the Shark".  That's a good expression for something that's been done to death, or "Beaten like a dead horse".  Now THERE is some lovely imagery!   :o

I'll have to look into that - I use Sonar, actually, and I know that I can assign a mix bus to groups of tracks, or single tracks, but I have to learn about automating.... I'm so lame.  :)

HA!  Oh, I'm not a very good keyboardist, I know!  But!  I was proud of myself that I only had to correct two bad notes with my midi editor!  I'll consider that "batting a thousand" (silly American baseball reference that I probably shouldn't make in a Swedish forum).   ;)

It really WOULD be better with friends.

I just did this because I haven't recorded anything lately, and was wondering if I still could... Then, I thought that the ending was a little boring, and made myself a choir.  It IS "Hallelujah", after all.  A choir is necessary.  But I didn't have one.  :)

Is there such a thing as too much dynamics?  Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on compressing/limiting this... as it is, I've done nothing other than play keys and sing....

 ;) Please take my Boyfriend Bob off the list... His last three albums just keep getting better and better.  If I'm reading this correctly, and that "Gubbrock" means tired and worn and the same-old same-old, and that the band should really just retire quietly and fade away, I just have to say that Bob isn't in this category.  I've been to three Dylan shows in the last 5 years, and not only is he playing new music (and award winning music, I might add) with some AMAZING musicians at each show, but he makes his old stuff sound shiny and new again.  In fact, he was 3/4 of the way through freaking "Blowin' in the Wind" before either my husband or I even realized that he was playing it....  now THAT was wild.  :blink:

So... that being said, this is a really interesting topic.  Is there an English Equivalent?   I don't think that there is... not one that I can think of anyway.  "Sold Out" is a term that comes to mind, but that can apply to so many other things - and yeah, all of the bands mentioned (plus a thousand more) have sold out at some point.  I've even heard DM on TV commercials.  (Gasp!)  But "Gagging Old Man" may translate as "Doddering".. but I've never heard anyone call some washed up old dude a "Doddering Rocker"... So.  Maybe just "Classic Rock" in general fits the description... Gagging Old men seem to prefer it, and most of it makes ME Gag...  Just a thought.   

Oh.  I also just bought Tom Petty's newest... and it's pretty good. Not his best, mind you, but he's not Gagging yet, that I can see... :)

I love your voice, Kornstad.   :wub:   But the song is So Pretty, though!  I can't hear anything wrong with the mix, but then again, I'm not an audio engineer, either.  My critiques are limited to melody and vocals.... For the record, EQ... I LOVE when the drums come in - that's where I had the most fun when recording - feeling the change!  Why are you even listening to that crazy Emu?!?!?!   ;) :lol: :lol: :lol: ;)   Emu knows I'm joking, everyone...

And it's straight-up folk in my book.  Doesn't have a country feel at all - I find that country is very dependant on the drum patterns...(not to mention a lap steel guitar, country harmonies, and a "twang" accent) and this is not country.   I probably wouldn't have done it if it was.  I AM *from* Ohio, where Country is King - but, I can't stand it.  Besides... This song doesn't even *mention* a truck, a dog, a bar....    ;)

Hi guys.... Sorry I haven't been around - we're on a small vacation in Las Vegas (and losing lots of money.  AAAAGH!).  Haven't had internet access except on my phone, and it doesn't translate Swedish!  :)

Thanks for the nice comments!  Ummmm... I'm not sure that I CAN sing that an octave down...  but I'll think about it and see if it works for me.  Might be a good idea to vary the sound, although I kind of appreciate/like the repetative, or "repeating" feel of the song.

Will check back in (and listen to more of you as well) when I can...

Hello, Boys!  Thank you all for making such fine comments.  I happen to agree with all of you, especially the T & S thing.  After listening several times, I think they are a bit too compressed as well (sorry, Emu!). 

Freddy, you are right about everything you said...   MaxB, I have worked with several people on KR already, and am open to more - but I have to tell you that Emu is keeping me pretty busy!  You might have to get in line....  ;)  Clavinova, I think Emu has some more things to add so hopefully it will all come together for you in the end.... Thanks, Divi & Eko!  Stajo - I sing a little to the side, use a pop filter and watch how I pronounce things.  I don't think the track I sent had such strong sounds on it.  So, I'll blame Emu, too.   :P

This is just lovely, and really shows off Marre's voice so nicely! I'm listening to the new mix and I think it's balanced well between the instrumentation and vocals.  I like how the chorus changes between mono and stereo vocals (is that what I'm hearing?)  And the break fits well and set up for the next.  Good job, you two!
